Robert Pattinson Reveals Why He Took The Batman Role

Do you remember when Edward said "You are my life now", I could have sworn my heart flipped and flopped about forty times. Pattinson feels like a total shift from the likes of Ben Affleck and his many predecessors, but the Twilight actor carries enough tortured gravitas that his version of Bruce Wayne's complex dual personality as Batman could be refreshing and darker in a more interesting way than we've seen since Christian Bale grabbed Heath Ledger by his bright green vest and slammed him against the wall.

But it now appears Reeves finally has his man, as Variety reported on Thursday night that Robert Pattinson was in final talks for the role. Warner Bros., in giving Reeves plenty of time to develop the script, is hoping the latest iteration of the DC icon is done right, following the disappointments of Batman v Superman and Justice League.

The reveal that a younger version of the Joker killed Bruce Wayne's parents is as hamfistedly dumb as it gets in a "Batman" movie. Reeves, who previously directed the two Planet of the Apes sequels, took over directing duties on the project from Ben Affleck in January 2017.
